More about buying ebooks from us

The book showcases 75 beautiful words evocative of the wild, from all around the world, that describe natural happenings in nature. It includes words that describe weather, or a feeling  you have when in nature as well as sensory words that explain the smell or sound of a place.

The words used to express what is seen in the world are vital to an appreciation of it – language is a key component in the call of the wild. As words vanish from a language, it follows that what they describe may disappear. Words deepen understanding of what is seen, and what is seen comes more vividly to life through the words used to describe it. As the natural world and the time spent in it diminish in the face of modern life, it’s more vital than ever to recall it into being with the magic of language.

Examples of words:
Mångata. Sweden. Noun. The path of light that the moon makes on water.
Sugar weather. Canada. Noun. A period of warm days and cold nights – the perfect weather to start the sap flowing in maple trees.
Rudėnja. Lithuania. The way nature begins to feel as autumn takes hold and the vestiges of summer disappear.
Komorebi. Japan. Noun. Beams of sunlight filtering down through the trees.

The book is cheeky – and knowledgeable’. – Diana Henry, The Sunday Telegraph

Ravneet Gill grew up LOVING sugar. For as long as she can remember it’s been her friend and constant companion – from dairy milk fruit & nut bars, to kitkats, cornettos, treacle sponges, profiteroles and more (she really could go on). It’s little wonder that she grew up to become a pastry chef working in some of London’s most respected food institutions such as London St. John and Llewellyn’s.

Having laid down the basics and demystified the technicalities of baking in her first book, The Pastry Chef’s Guide, Rav is back to serve up some more gems to help you build up your baking armory. We’re talking MORE cheesecakes (with influences from around the world), ultimate multi-layered, multi-textured cakes, sweet doughs such as devonshire splits and sweet, dimpled brunsvigers. Make the fryer your friend with sweet bombolini, fritters and classic ring donuts. Get FANCY with plated desserts to impress your friends, with luminescent mousses and intricate entremets to take your breath away.

With more photographs and detailed recipes from beginning to end, Sugar, I Love You takes homemade patisserie to the next level with Rav’s signature style, wit and easy-to-follow approach. Interspersed with anecdotes and essays on ‘How not to be a sugar snob’ and ‘What to do when your dinner guest doesn’t eat sugar?’ , this book is bursting with colour, flavour and personality. Are you ready to take it to the next level? Rav thinks so…

Chapters Include: Biscuits; Cakes; Cheesecakes; Sweet Doughs; Fried Delights; Entrements; Ice Creams; Plated Desserts

Gujarati cuisine is traditionally boiled, baked, steamed, or stir-fried – creating light and healthy meals that are still packed with flavour. This cookbook explores authentic cuisine from the west coast of India – with recipes adopting the region’s explosive combination of sweet, spicy, and sour flavours. Featuring easy recipes for classic small plates, popular street food, and everything in between — from bite-sized appetisers and filling dals to classic curries, decadent desserts, and refreshing beverages. Vina Patel has made her recipes accessible for home-cooks everywhere, including prep and cook times, and any relevant dietary requirements for each recipe.

Chapter outline: Introduction (includes an intro to Gujarati Cooking, Cooking Techniques, Essential Ingredients and Basic Recipes) Chutneys and other condiments, Salads and Raitas, Appetizers, Dals and Soups, Curries, Breads, Rice and Khichdi, Drinks and Desserts.

Recipes include Spicy Pea Croquettes, Curry Cashew Masala, Smoky Aubergine Curry, Green Chickpea Salad, Spinach Chaat, Thin Layered Roti and Kheer with Cherries.

World-renowned food photographer Jonathan Lovekin photographs the vibrant and colourful dishes, and there are atmospheric photographs of Gujarat throughout. This book transports the reader to the site of these dishes – with compelling stories from Gujarat coupled with delicious plant-based recipes from the region.

Ask a foodie about the Amalfi Coast and lemons immediately spring to mind. The sweet, aromatic, large and thick-skinned Sfusato Amalfitano is the extraordinary and delectable citrus fruit which Gennaro Contaldo grew up with.

Lemons were and still are a part of daily life for locals of the Amalfi Coast, and, when Gennaro came to the UK over 40 years ago he continued this tradition. From a sliver of zest in his morning espresso to helping with minor ailments and even household chores, lemons have a wealth of uses.

No part of the lemon is wasted – flesh, pith and skin are chopped into salads, juice is drizzled over meat, fish and veggies, while the aromatic zest adds a complexity to a dish’s flavour. Even the leaves are used to wrap meat, fish and cheese for extra flavour, or finely chopped and made into a tea infusion.

Lemons can cleanse, refresh, preserve, ‘cook’ and add a vibrant flavour to dishes as giving colour and an uplifting aroma. From Ravioli with Ricotta, Lemon and Mint, and Sicilian Chicken Involtini, to Lemon Biscuits, and Coffee and Lemon Semi-freddo, this is not only a beautiful and inspiring homage to the most revered of fruit but Gennaro’s most inspirational book to date.

Chapters are: Introduction – including The Amalfi Lemon and Lemons in the Kitchen; Small Plates; Vegetables; Fish; Meat; Desserts; Drinks & Preserves; Sauces & Dressings.

ABOUT THE Author

Gennaro Contaldo’s warmth, Italian spirit and sense of fun have led him to be one of the UK’s most-loved chefs. He is renowned for being a mentor to Jamie Oliver and teaching him, with Carluccio, everything Jamie knows about Italian cooking. In 1999, he opened Passione in London, which was awarded Best Italian restaurant in 2005. He is a favourite on Saturday Kitchen, has his own YouTube food channel, and is an ambassador for Citalia, Parmigiano Reggiano and Birra Moretti. Recognising one of the most-honoured performers of all time, A Celebration of Dolly Parton: The Activity Book is 2021’s follow-up to A Celebration of David Attenborough: The Activity Book and The Unofficial Michelle Obama Activity Book.

Spanning Dolly’s long and illustrious career, The Activity Book includes:

  • Illustrations and graphics to colour-in dedicated to Dolly’s Greatest Hits
  • Anagrams of our favourite Dolly songs
  • A solution for when the daily 9 to 5 grind is transported to the working-from-home environment
  • A tour of Dollywood: try to spot Dolly among the throngs of visitors and maze your way around to reunite her with her missing guitar
  • Inspirational word clouds, quizzes, puzzles, games, drawings, facts, emotional rollercoaster graphs and much, much more

Not just a musician, Dolly has used her vast fame and fortune for good: setting up The Dollywood Foundation, the My People Fund and, perhaps most famously, The Imagination Library which provides free books to children throughout their childhood. Dolly the Philanthropist sections are interspersed throughout the activities – providing information on her charitable endeavours, such as her recent contribution to the funding for research into the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.

But what do we really know about the woman behind the chart-toppers, successful enterprises and charitable foundations? Dolly’s Wit & Wisdom punctuates the book, offering an insight into ‘the living legend’ – what makes her so likeable, why she is considered a queer icon, as well as valuable life advice on love, fashion and femininity to ensure you’re as successful as ‘Saint Dolly’ herself.
