Young Annabel lives in the 1950s and dreams of a future with jetpacks, flying cars and robots.  However, little does she know that she is living under an evil spell that could mean she has no future at all…

When the curse is fulfilled on her 16th birthday and she falls asleep for 1000 years, her house is overgrown by a magnificent rose tree. A plucky young explorer called Zoe discovers the story of Sleeping Beauty, but can she find Annabel in time to lift the curse and show her what the future actually looks like?

Packed with mid-century detail, this gorgeous book will be treasured for years to come.

ABOUT THE Illustrator

David Roberts began his career in fashion illustration. He has since illustrated numerous children’s books, for which he has won and been shortlisted for awards. His work ranges from Pavilion Books’ fairy tale retellings, to his brilliantly funny books with Julia Donaldson such as Tyrannosaurus DripThe Troll and The Cook and the King. He has also earned great success through his books with Andrea Beaty (Ada Twist, Scientist and others) and his self-authored title Suffragette.

Lynn Roberts has worked with children’s literature for many years – both as a specialist in book shops and as a writer. She is the author of modern adaptations of the classic fairytales of Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel, Little Red and Cinderella.

‘Offering a fresh take on these quintessential tales, the Roberts siblings have created a fairy tale that is way more current and more accessible for a wide and varied audience.

‘Chosen for its quirky brilliance and beautiful period illustrations … re-inventing a classic tale in mid-century style and with a refreshing feminist twist … The period details confirm this picture book offering as a 20th Century historical tour de force.’
