Asma Khan to feature in Netflix’s ‘Chef’s Table’ Friday 22nd February

19.02.19

On Friday 22nd February, Netflix will air the sixth season of their Emmy-nominated food documentary series Chef’s Table. Asma Khan, author of Asma’s Indian Kitchen and owner of restaurant Darjeeling Express will be the first British chef to feature in the programme, appearing alongside chefs Mashama Bailey, Sean Brock, and Dario Cecchini.

The launch of Chef’s Table Season 6, featuring Asma’s episode saw it’s world premiere on 13th February at Berlinale – one of the world’s largest public film festivals. Asma attended the premiere with her sister and the Netflix team.

When Asma moved to the UK from Calcutta in 1991, she could not cook anything. Over time, as she travelled back to her ancestral kitchens in India, Asma learned recipes that had been in her family for four generations. After finishing her doctorate in British constitutional law in 2012, she decided to follow her heart and open a food business. Asma’s Darjeeling Express started as a supper club in her Kensington home and went on to open the award-winning restaurant in Soho. Hailed by the Evening Standard as one of the ’15 best London restaurants of 2015’ (when it opened), Asma’s remarkable all-women team of housewives run the kitchen at Darjeeling Express, offering home-style food, cooked with passion.

In her debut book ‘Asma’s Indian Kitchen’, Asma reveals the secret to her success, telling her immigrant’s story and how food brought her home. The recipes pay homage to her royal Mughlai ancestry and follow the route of the Darjeeling Express train from the busy streets of Bengal, through Calcutta, where she grew up, and along the foothills of the Himalayas to Hyderabad.
