Meet ‘St Ives’ author Chris Stephens at Ways With Words Festival

11/07/2018 10:00 am | Dartington Hall, Totnes, Devon, TQ9 6EL
Come along to Ways With Words Festival on Wednesday 11th July at 10am to hear Holburne Museum Director and leading authority on St Ives artists Chris Stephens speak about his new book St Ives.
For twenty-five years the small town of St Ives was one of the leading places in the world for the production of avant-garde art. The community there spanned three generations and included such international figures as Naum Gabo, Barbara Hepworth and Ben Nicholson, as well as a number of the foremost artists in post-war Britain, including Peter Lanyon, Patrick Heron, Terry Frost and Roger Hilton. They found themselves contributing to the international search for art in the post-war world and they established a modernist practice that continues to influence today.
Chris Stephens will be exploring this cultural phenomenon and reflecting upon the important role the artists have played in an international context.
Founded in 1991, Ways with Words Festival promotes both the written and the spoken word. Its aim is to bring people together in beautiful surroundings to make contact with writers, journalists and experts in various fields – to talk, to argue, to listen, to engage and to learn.
