Miranda York’s The Food Almanac shortlisted for the Jane Grigson Trust Award

Congratulations to Miranda York and her upcoming title The Food Almanac: Recipes and Stories for a Year At the Table – shortlisted for the Jane Grigson Trust Award 2020 for new food and drink writers
Now in its fifth year, the £2000 Jane Grigson Trust Award, created in memory of the distinguished British food writer Jane Grigson, is made to a first-time writer of a book about food or drink which has been commissioned but not yet published. In the spirit of Jane Grigson and her writing, the Award is for a non-fiction book on food and drink in the widest sense, from any genre – cookbook, memoir, travel, history – as long as the primary subject is food or drink.
About the Book
An illustrated collection of food stories told by an eclectic mix of voices
Presented as a seasonal food almanac – a month-by-month guide to inspire the reader throughout the year – each chapter of this book begins with an introduction from the editor, followed by seasonal highlights for the cook’s larder, spotlights on ingredients, and passages on food history. A book to both read and cook from, each chapter ends with a menu by a different cook or chef, with recipes carefully chosen to show off the best of the season.
Contributors range from legendary food writers and lauded chefs such as Diana Henry, Fuchsia Dunlop, Yotam Ottolenghi and Meera Sodha to up-and-coming poets and debut novelists including Livia Franchini, performer Yomi Sode, editor Erica Wagner, and playwright and novelist Deborah Levy; and each specially commissioned story looks at the gastronomic world through a cultural prism.
